RISEUP was founded in 2017 and is incorporated in New York State as a not‑for‑profit organization. Its full legal name is the Research Initiative for the Strategic Empowerment of the Urban Populace, Inc.
How can donations be made to RISEUP?
RISEUP offers several ways to support our work through monetary donations. You can give online via PayPal at paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/3685892. Donations by check, made payable to RISEUP, may also be mailed to 68 Touissant Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10710.
Are contributions to RISEUP tax-deductible? How can I verify RISEUP’s status as a charitable organization?
Yes. Contributions of cash, goods, and in‑kind donations to RISEUP are tax‑deductible to the extent permitted by law. RISEUP received IRS authorization to operate as a charitable organization in 2021.
To verify our status, visit the IRS Tax‑Exempt Organization Search database. Under “Search By,” select Organization Name, then enter Research Initiative for the Strategic Empowerment of the Urban Populace. You may also narrow your search by entering Yonkers as the city and New York as the state. The database provides access to our current tax‑exempt status, determination letter, and recent filings.
How can I obtain a copy of RISEUP’s original IRS Form 1023 application for tax exempt status?
In accordance with federal disclosure requirements, interested parties may request a copy of RISEUP’s original IRS Form 1023 application. Hard copies are available upon written request accompanied by a $25 check to cover copying and mailing costs. Requests should be sent to 68 Touissant Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10710.

Can you share examples of community projects that have been enhanced by RISEUP’s work?
RISEUP has supported and managed a range of community‑based initiatives addressing environmental, economic, and civic challenges at the local and regional level. Our work has included convening multi‑state coalitions for major federal grant initiatives, partnering with municipal agencies, labor organizations, and nonprofit institutions, and producing public forums and cultural projects focused on community education and storytelling.
